Bloggers influence certain industries more than others.
In fashion, bloggers often appear in industry magazines and are called on to review products. These days, you’d be hard-pressed to find an established fashion brand that doesn’t have its own blog.
So how can you harness the power of blogging to drive customers to your own fashion website?
Here are my top tips for starting a fashion blog for your business:
Network with fashion bloggers to help establish your site
Hook your readers with something original and valuable
Style your blog appropriately – adding lots of fashion porn!
Understand the importance of headlines and good SEO
1. Network with fashion bloggers to help establish your site
Contact bloggers you like to see if you can write guest posts for them. This will give you more exposure (make sure you’re credited!) and a link back to your site – great for SEO. Readers from the original site may even subscribe to your blog, too!
2. Hook your readers with something original and valuable
It’s fine to promote sales and special offers through your blog, but these should NOT make up the majority of your posts. Give readers something valuable every time they read your blog. How-to guides and product reviews are just two examples of the kind of posts you could write.
3. Style your blog appropriately – adding lots of fashion porn!
We’re a generation of scan readers with short attention spans, so if your website is not appealing at first glance, it will be quickly forgotten. Fashion bloggers need to be even more style-conscious than the average online writer. Remember to use bold, high-quality images throughout – and label them for SEO.
4. Understand the importance of headlines and good SEO
If you’ve followed steps 1-3, you’re already optimizing your site for search engines (don’t forget to label your images correctly!) Remember your hook? Let readers know what’s in it for them with your headline. Use clear subheadings, bullets and bold text to break up the copy and remember to make the juicy bits easy to find.
